Most flying discs are hard plastic; the KONG Extreme Flyer is moulded rubber, so it gives a little when a dog catches it out of the air. That is the reason to buy one — a 22.9 cm disc your dog can bite down on without meeting a rigid edge. The rubber is KONG's black Extreme formula, so the disc also survives being carried around and chewed between throws, and it rebounds off the ground when your dog misses the catch.
